Tina Fey and Amy Poehler might be beloved comedy stars, but they will have some trouble getting audiences for Sisters, which opens on the exact same day Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters. They know that too, so that might explain Universal’s new commercial for the film.
Sisters - The Farce Awakens is a funny parody of the Force Awakens behind-the-scenes video shown at San Diego Comic Con in July.
It features star Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project) talking about how long he has wanted to work with Poehler, Fey and Maya Rudolph. Fey and Poehler talk about the movie with British accents to hide the fact that they are drunk. There’s also computer animatics and storyboards for visual gags. (Did they really need to make an animatic to decide how a toy would go up Barinholtz’s butt?)
At the end, Fey assures viewers that it is possible to see more than one movie on the weekend of Dec. 18. Oh, there’s also a cameo from George Takei at the end.
Sisters was directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) and written by Paula Pell (Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock).
