Animation fans will enjoy the new films entering theaters this weekend. There’s an animated feature for kids and adults alike, including a game playing adventure featuring the voices of Ariana Grande and Katie Holmes.
A boy takes on a bully in a game of foosball in Underdogs. Seven years later, the bully comes back with a vengeance and tries to take over the town. The two put their metropolis on the line in a soccer game. The young man’s foosball players come to life to aid him in his quest. The PG animated adventure features the voices of Katie Holmes, John Leguizamo, Chazz Palminteri, Nicholas Hoult, Matthew Morrison and Ariana Grande. The one hour and twenty-nine minute film is playing in conventional and 3D theaters.
A man, trapped in the humdrum of the everyday, struggles to connect with others in Anomalisa. A woman brings a spark back into his life. The one hour and thirty minute animated comedy is written by Academy Award winner Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Being John Malkovich) and features the voices of Jennifer Jason Leigh, David Thewlis and Tom Noonan. The limited released film is rated R for sex, nudity and language.
An animated family film entertains audiences this week, but next week fear is in the forefront. On January 8, horror comes to the big screen as The Forest enters theaters.
