Despite being panned by critics and fans, The Ridiculous 6 was Netflix's most successful movie launch ever.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings announced at CES 2016 that in the first 30 days, Adam Sandler's The Ridiculous 6 has been the most-watched movie in the history of the streaming service.
“It’s also enjoyed a spot at No. 1 in every territory we operate in, and in many of them it’s still No. 1," he added.
Though Netflix does not release exact figures, the statistic Hastings is referring to has to do with viewership over the course of 30 days, not viewership over the course of Netflix's entire history. Still, this is incredibly good news for Sandler and Netflix, as the two have signed a deal to make four pictures together.
At the box office, recent Sandler movies have experienced mixed success. Pixels saw a domestic gross of $78 million on a $88 million budget, and before that, Blended grossed $46 million and That's My Boy took in $36 million, although the Grown Ups movies have done incredibly well. Still, maybe for now Netflix will turn out to be a more profitable home for Sandler.
