Alison Pill has just been cast in a very timely drama about gun control.

According to Variety, Pill has joined Mrs. Sloane, which will revolve around a lobbyist's attempts to push tighter gun control regulations. She'll be co-starring with Jessica Chastain, who was announced as one of the leads back in September.

The film will be written by first time screenwriter Jonathan Perera and directed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel). EuropaCorp is producing, having purchased the rights at the Toronto International Film Festival last year.

Alison Pill is known for her role as Maggie Jordan on HBO's The Newsroom and she has also appeared in films such as Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Cooties, Snowpiercer and Midnight in Paris. She'll be starring on ABC's new political drama The Family this March.

The issue of gun control regulation is obviously a very hot-button issue right now and just this week President Obama announced an executive order calling for stricter background checks. It remains to be seen how recent developments will influence the writing of Mrs. Sloane.
