After a long bout with throat cancer, Céline Dion's husband René Angélil had died. He was 73 years old.

Dion’s rep confirmed the sad news to People on Thursday.

"Rene Angélil, 73, passed away this morning as his home in Las Vegas after a long and courageous battle against cancer," the rep said in a statement. "The family requests that their privacy be respected at the moment; more details will be provided at a later time."

EW noted that Angélil was born in Montreal and had been involved in the music business since the 1960s. He married Dion in 1994 and managed her career until 2014. He was first diagnosed with throat cancer in the ‘90s.

In addition to Dion, Angélil leaves behind six childen. Three he shares with the singer and three from a previous marriage.

As we previously reported, Dion said in an interview that Angélil’s final wish was to die in her arms; a promise she said she intended to keep.
