If you live in Washington D.C. and your car is “snowed in” the city wants you to remove it or you will continue to be fined for every day the vehicle sits in that spot.
KHQ reported that so far the city has issued parking tickets that have totaled over $1 million as well as $65,000 in fines and towed 656 cars.
The city is saying that the cars need to be moved out of the spots so the plows can get up and down the streets to clean up after a blizzard dumped more than around two feet of snow on the nation’s capital.
“Don’t park your car illegally, and that includes parking it kind of in the middle of the street next to the snow bank,” D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said Tuesday.
Motorists, however, are arguing that they are snowed in those spots next to large snow banks.
“They gave me a $250 ticket just for being snowed in. I couldn’t get no help,” driver Danielle Smith said.
In addition to the $250 ticket, owners of the vehicles that are not moved will have a $25 per day penalty and could ultimately face a $100 towing fee on top of that.
