Inside Out won the Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature at the Golden Globes last night, a completely unsurprising result. The Pixar film, released by Disney, has rightfully earned wide acclaim as an original story that goes inside the mind of a young girl.
Director Pete Docter, whose previous film, Up, won the same award at the 2009 Globes, accepted the award with producer Jonas Rivera. The film was co-directed by Ronnie Del Carmen, another Pixar veteran.
Like the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, the Golden Globe is also a relatively new award. It only began in 2006 and since then, Pixar films have won the award seven times. Add in Frozen’s win, and eight films released by Disney have won the award.
The films that weren't released by Disney/Pixar that won are The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn (2011) and How To Train Your Dragon 2 (2014).
Inside Out will likely win the Oscar, but it does face competition from another Pixar film, The Good Dinosaur. It’s the first time in Pixar’s history that it has two films in the running during the same year.
