Outlander fans were treated to a new trailer for its long-awaited Season 2 as they anxiously await the as yet unannounced specific premiere date in April for the hit time-traveling romance’s next season.
The just over two-minute trailer depicts Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) as they arrive in France and immediately assimilate themselves into King Louis XV’s court. They then do everything they can to change history, namely to prevent the Jacobite rising and the outcome of the Battle of Culloden, which puts an end to Scotland’s way of life and kills many Scots in the process.
"For Claire, [Season 1] was a reactionary season,” Balfe said during the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Friday, reports TV.com. "She was in survivor mode. She was reacting from one thing to the next.” In Season 2, "things are sitting with her a lot more; she has time to consider her place and how she feels. It's been an amazing discovery."
As for Jamie, he’s still dealing with the events of the first season, namely what he endured at the hands of the evil and sadistic Captain “Black Jack” Randall (Tobias Menzies). Yet, Heughan said that the audience will see a different side to Jamie in Season 2.
"Season 1 was about discovery, about a young man growing up and finding his place in the world and in a relationship. Season 2 has been about discovering a side of the character that I didn't know was there. He's playing someone else, he's being quite deceptive and learning to be deceitful, and he does it very well," he said, reports IGN. "Jamie's very capable and good at most things. There's a side to him that I didn't know. He's still obviously traumatized or struggling with what happened to him. There's not a darkness, but there's a side of him I didn't know existed. His humor and his buoyancy and his natural ability to keep going no matter what's wrong, and also his absolute dedication to Claire is admirable and inspiring."
The trailer below also shows a huge departure from the grime and dirt of the first season as both Claire and Jamie are continually dressed in gorgeous pastels, oh-so-soft silks and numerous high-end fashions as they interact with France’s most elite in order to change the future.
So, season 2 of Outlander looks to be filled with lots of dangerous risks, intrigue, politics, conflict and deception along with romance, passion and heartache as Claire and Jamie traverse France’s duplicitous high court and their relationship is put to the ultimate test.
