Jay Z has been sued by Perfumania for allegedly failing to promote his fragrance Gold Jay Z, which made a fraction of the projected $35 million in sales.

Parlux Fragrances LLC and Perfumania Holdings Inc. sued Shawn Carter personally and his S. Carter Enterprises LLC for $18 million for rescission, breach of contract and breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing.

Although Jay Z made about $2 million in licensing and more from obtaining stock in Perfumania, the company claims he refused to participate in promotional events to get the word out about the fragrance.

According to Page Six, he skipped an appearance on Good Morning America, a promotional event at Macy’s and a cover story with Women’s Wear Daily to promote Gold.

“Sales of Gold Jay Z have declined considerably because of Jay Z’s and his team’s lack of interest in supporting and promoting his own brand,” Perfumania wrote in the lawsuit.

WWD reports Gold Jay Z, which has an 18-carat gold capped bottle designed by Jacob the Jeweler, made about $6.1 million last year when its projected earnings were $35 million.
