Just in time for Oscar consideration, 20th Century Fox's marketing team and the producers behind The Revenant released an expansive documentary about the making of the movie, for free online.
The documentary allows fans to be fully immersed in the remote locations that were used to create the film's setting.
The Revenant (reviewed here) was incredibly difficult to bring to life on film. The documentary highlights those challenges that the production team encountered while working on this movie. The crew experienced many climate change events that made the shoot very difficult. In order to film the final scenes, which required lots of snow, the cast and crew had to move their location towards Antarctica, in order to gain the full impact of the scene.
Director Alejandro G. Iñárritu explained that he wanted to get lost in nature for a year and that this was truly the a test of his professional career.
The entire film was shot with natural light and using the surroundings, so at times the crew would have to wait for long periods of time to get the shot they wanted.
The Revenant has earned 12 Oscar nominations.
