New York based Canadian singer and songwriter, NLX (Natasha Alexandra), fine tunes a new dark and moody palate for latest music release Luxury of Failure.
The ten track third studio output, which follows the singer’s previous Bitch Get Fit , starts off with the haunting and lulling coos and purrs of starter track “Lullaby.” The ethereal beginning works well in the setting of the pace for the amalgamation of moody tones to come. The selected rhythmic and driving lead single off the release, “Burn,“ eviscerates with an ascending and raw sonic tension that further imprints the single’s commercial appeal. Highlighted in tracks, as the promising “Little Victories,” are moments that takes a turn in showcasing the technical aspects of NLX’s vocal talents. Put It To Bed,” is another example where the singer expands her vocal range and sound to reflect minute underlying folk nuances. The NLX’s most intimate moments however are those tracks, for example “Silence” and “Flatlight,” where the voice is solely circled by the keyboardist’s rhythmic chords or emotive piano lines. The near ending “Haymaker“ is another standout that initially captures with an unexpected sultry torch-lounge intro. “Home Safe Soon” ends the musical journey on a hopeful note. Overall, the release best reveals NLX’s clear, descriptive, direct, and insightful lyrical pen.
NLX’s Luxury of Failure is a win worth a spin.
