Rock 'n' roll group Pearl Jam and friends of the band have donated $300,000 to assist those who are currently being impacted by the water crisis in Flint, Michigan.
The band's donation was announced by the United Way of Genesee County and on their website. Jamie Gaskin, chief executive officer of the United Way of Genesee County, opened up about the donation and how it will be helping those who are dealing with the water crisis. It was stressed that this money would be used right away in order to help the most people.
"This is an incredible gift for the people of Flint, one that will help address our immediate needs in the community and long-term needs that will be addressed by the Flint Child Health and Development Fund," explained Gaskin.
Incoming monetary donations are being used to purchase water filters, bottled water and additional services that are being needed in the area.
The city of Flint is now under a public health emergency. High levels of lead have been found in water pipes and is now poisoning residents. Many of those impacted by the water complained for months before action was taken to help.
Pearl Jam just announced that they would be heading back on the road and touring in 2016. The band is planning to donate $3 from every ticket sold to its Vitalogy Foundation, which works in areas of community health, arts and education and social issues.
