The world is still reeling from the death of music icon David Bowie and now his answers to the famous Proust questionnaire has resurfaced to give us a glimpse into the rock star’s personality.

The questionnaire was filled out for Vanity Fair’s August 1998 issue and focused on Bowie’s thoughts when it came to life and regrets. Bowie’s answers are both witty and insightful, such as his response to the question, “What is your motto?” His response was, “’What’ is my motto.”

In one question, he was asked about his greatest fear. While most would expect something philosophical, he suggested it was “converting kilometers to miles.” As for his identification with someone historically famous? That would be the jolly Santa Claus.

And apparently he was most regretful about not having worn bellbottoms.
