Saoirse Ronan, who is up for an Oscar for her performance in the acclaimed Brooklyn, has found a role to follow that up with. She will star in Lady Bird, the directing debut of Mistress America star Greta Gerwig.
The casting was first reported by Deadline. The site notes that she will make the movie while still starring on Broadway in a new production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. That production is being produced by Scott Rudin, who is also working on Lady Bird.
News about Lady Bird first popped up in August. It will be Gerwig’s first effort as a solo writer and director. She previously co-wrote Frances Ha and Mistress America with Noah Baumbach.
It’s not clear if Gerwig will give herself a role in the film. She has several projects on the docket, including the completed Maggie’s Plan, Todd Solondz’s Weiner-Dog, Mike Mills’ 20th Century Women and Jackie with Natalie Portman.
Ronan was just nominated for an Oscar for her excellent work in Brooklyn, which was also nominated for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay. She was previously nominated for Atonement when she was only 13.
