Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now the fourth-highest grossing film of all time on the worldwide box office chart. The movie passed Marvel’s The Avengers and Universal’s Furious 7 on Monday.
The seventh film in the Star Wars series grossed $14.5 million worldwide on Monday and $8 million in the U.S. That was the lowest day for the film in the U.S. since it hit theaters on the night of Dec. 17, notes Variety.
While this might be a sign that the film is starting to slow down in the U.S., it could still easily become the highest-grossing film domestically in history. It has grossed $750.2 million, just over $10 million shy of Avatar’s record.
Beating Avatar’s worldwide record might be a bit harder. The Force Awakens has grossed $1.54 billion worldwide now, which was enough to top The Avengers’ $1.52 billion and Furious 7’s $1.515 billion totals. However, Avatar’s worldwide total is $2.89 billion, so the film has a way to go.
The next film The Force Awakens could overtake is Jurassic World, which made $1.67 billion worldwide. Titanic still has the No. 2 spot worldwide with $2.19 billion.
The Force Awakens finally opens in China this weekend, so that will help its worldwide total significantly.
