A group of Star Wars fans have signed a petition calling for George Lucas to return to the franchise he created to direct Episode IX instead of Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow.

Yuri Luiz of Sao Paulo created a Change.org petition, asking Disney and Lucasfilm preident Kathleen Kennedy to bring Lucas back. The petition has amazingly reached over 20,000 signatures.

Of course, this petition seems to ignore the fact that Lucas has made it very clear that he doesn’t want to work with Disney on Star Wars. He must have sold Lucasfilm and his franchise to Disney for over $4 billion for some reason.

Also, the last time Lucas directed Star Wars movies, they were the prequels... and we all know how those turned out. While asking Lucas for some ideas on how the main series of episodes should end might be polite, but hiring to direct isn’t a good idea.

Trevorrow was officially hired to direct Episode IX in August 2015. The film’s story will be plotted by Rian Johnson, who is writing and directing Episode VIII.

The Jurassic World director actually responded to the Lucas petition in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying that he and Johnson want to channel the same “boldness” Lucas brought to the original films. Trevorrow also said that he is working really close with Johnson on the next two episodes.
