Star Wars: The Force Awakens has entered another important Oscar race. The American Cinema Editors nominated the blockbuster, along with Mad Max: Fury Road, at the ACE Eddie Awards.

The Force Awakens and Mad Max will compete for Best Edited Feature Film - Dramatic, along with The Martian, The Revenant and Sicario. Surprisingly, Tom McCarthy’s Spotlight was nowhere to be found, despite being the frontrunner for the Best Picture Oscar.

The nominees for Best Edited Feature Film - Comedic are Marvel’s Ant-Man, The Big Short, Joy, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl and Trainwreck.

Both Pixar films Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur will compete for Best Edited Animated Film, along with the stop-motion film Anomalisa.

The ACE is very good at predicting the eventual Best Editing Oscar and that win is typically crucial for hopes of a Best Picture Oscar win. Alejandro G. Inarritu’s Birdman broke a 33-year streak of Best Picture winners at least earning a Best Editing nomination.

On the television side, Orange is the New Black scored a surprising nomination for Best Edited Longform for the 90-minute episode “Trust No Bitch.” The Mad Men series finale was nominated for Best Edited One-Hour Series and will compete with two episodes of Better Call Saul.

The ACE Eddie Awards are presented on Jan. 29 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Below is the list of nominees, via Variety.
