Starbucks rang in the new year with an interesting new drink that we will all have to try: the Latte Macchiato.
Beginning today, the drink will be available as a new core beverage, Starbucks said. The drink includes whole milk that is “perfectly aerated” and “free-poured creating dense foam reminiscent of meringue.” (Are these real words?) Anyway, it’s just a fancy drink that mixes espresso and milk.
“The beverage is then marked by slowly-poured full espresso shots, creating a signature espresso dot,” the company says. “Starbucks baristas will use this carefully crafted technique to draw out an intensely bold and roasty flavor that highlights the Starbucks espresso in the beverage.”
Other members of the core espresso family at Starbucks includes Doppio, Caffe Americano, Flat White, Cappuccino and Caffe Latte. Starbucks also created this handy interactive image to show how the Latte Macchiato is different from the Flat White.
“Essentially, it’s an upside-down latte,” a barista told The Huffington Post.
