Even when tragedy strikes, the show must go on.
Vanessa Hudgens took to social media to let her fans know that her father, Greg Hudgens, has passed away on Jan. 31. He lost his battle to cancer on the same day that Vanessa is set to star as Rizzo in FOX’s Grease: Live.
“I am so sad to say that last night my daddy, Greg passed away from stage 4 cancer,” Hudgens wrote. “Thank you to everyone who kept him in your prayers.”
“Tonight, I do the show in his honor,” the actress continued.
Hudgens first revealed that her dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer at The Circle of Hope charity event for cancer survivors in August.
Hudgens' longtime friend and High School Musical co-star Ashley Tisdale expressed her condolences on Twitter shortly after the news broke.
“I am devastated,” Tisdale wrote. “Just thinking of my girl and praying for her strength today.”
Julianne Hough, who is playing Sandy in the live production of Grease on Jan. 31, also took to social media to give Hudgens some love.
“Love my Rizzo so much!! I want to be like you when I grow up! #GreaseLive #tonight on FOX,” Hough wrote with a picture of her and Hudgens in costume.
