DC Comics and Warner Bros.’ Wonder Woman will take filmgoers to a war that usually doesn’t get attention. The film will take place during World War I, actor Chris Pine confirmed.
The World War I setting isn’t a complete surprise, as set photos had appeared to confirm that. However, this is the first time we’ve heard about it from one of the actors.
“it’s a period we don’t see often; it’s usually World War II,” Pine told The Toronto Sun while promoting the upcoming The Finest Hours. “Our costume design is incredible. We have scenes with, like, 500 extras all in period dress. I’d never been on a film with extras casting as beautifully done as it is here.”
Pine stars as Steve Trevor, a pilot who is saved by Diana/Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) and becomes her love interest. The film is being directed by Patty Jenkins and Pine had nothing but great things to say about the Monster filmmaker’s work.
“Patty is just directing the daylights out of it. It’s shot beautifully feels so wonderfully period, but also has this wonderful pop sensibility,” he said.
Production on Wonder Woman began in November and a preview will air on Tuesday during a special on The CW.
Wonder Woman hits theaters on June 23, 2017, but you can see Gadot as Wonder Woman in Batman v Superman on March 25. You can catch Pine in The Finest Hours on Jan. 29 and in Star Trek Beyond on July 22.
