Vin Diesel will be working on another action sequel this month, but it doesn’t have to do with fast cars. A third film in the xXx series is in the works and Nina Dobrev is among the stars who might join.
On Thursday, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Dobrev (The Vampire Diaries) and Ruby Rose (Orange is the New Black) are in talks for roles in the movie. Bollywood star Deepika Padukone is also in talks.
In August, Diesel promised that xXx 3 would start filming in December, but that didn’t quite happen. THR now reports that the film, which will also star Samuel L. Jackson, will start filming this month.
Joe Roth, who was the head of Revolution Studios when the 2002 original was made, is co-producing the new film with Jeff Kirschenbaum, Diesel and Samantha Vincent. Shooting will take place in Toronto and the Philippines.
xXx was a big hit in 2002, but 2005’s xXx: State of the Union starred Ice Cube. Diesel is coming back to play his original role from the first film, Xander Cage, so the new movie has appropriately been titled xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.
If Dobrev does end up starring in the film, it could be a huge break for her post-Vampire Diaries. She left the show after six seasons and has starred in The Final Girls. She has just finished Crash Pad with Christina Applegate.
