Zack Snyder's Man of Steel was the first film in this new D.C. cinematic universe and became an incredibly controversial film. The ending to Man of Steel set the Internet on fire with fans either loving or hating how the Superman film concluded. Many fans thought that the ending featured too much destruction of Metropolis without showing any fallout.

Snyder sat down with Famous Monsters and explained that he stands by how the film ended and that without this moment in the D.C. universe, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice wouldn't be able to take place.

"I wanted a big consequence to Superman’s arrival on Earth. Certainly, Batman v Superman sort of cashes in all its chips on the ‘why’ of that destruction. The discovery of the story is that Batman fights Superman. Now move your superhero chess pieces so that can happen. And it can happen in a credible and interesting way," explained Snyder.

He went onto say that he is currently thinking about the future and doesn't like to spend too long thinking about the past. Snyder's upcoming Batman v Superman will be released on March 23, 2016.
