Three people were killed and 14 were injured after a gunman opened fire at his workplace as well as two other locations in Kansas on Feb. 25.
CNN reported that authorities received a call about a person firing a weapon out of a vehicle in the town of Newton around 5 p.m. Thursday. Soon after those calls came in police got word about a shooting at the lawn care products plant Excel Industries in nearby Hesston.
"The shooter proceeded north to Excel Industries in Hesston, where one person was shot in the parking lot before he opened fire inside the building," the department said in a release. "He was seen entering the building with an assault-style long gun."
Arriving officers exchanged fire with the suspect and he was killed. He has since been identified as Cedric Larry Ford, 38, a worker at Excel. Law enforcement officials said he has a rap sheet dating back to the 1990s.
Hesston has a population of 3,700 people and is about 35 miles away from Wichita.
