There’s good news for Walmart and bad news for Abercrombie & Fitch based on a new list of hated retail shops. The fashion brand found itself on a list it would rather not be on when it beat out Walmart and was ranked No. 1 most hated retailer in America.
The American Customer Satisfaction Index noted that Abercrombie scored one point lower than Walmart, which traditionally gets some of the lowest ratings compared to other department stores, with a 65.
Abercrombie & Fitch has around 300 stores throughout the country, and experts believe that such a low score for a small retailer could mean trouble for the clothing company.
“Normally when we see that kind of a gap, it's a company so large it has monopoly power, like Walmart or McDonalds,” Forrest Morgeson, ACSI's Director of Research, told CNN Money. “Abercrombie & Fitch is not that. They aren't that large… This can spell serious trouble for the company.”
Maybe not, though. Since 2006, Walmart has consistently ranked low, and although people may say they don’t like shopping there, the company’s numbers haven’t really taken a hit or reflect that.
On the other side of things, the stores that scored high marks with consumers were Nordstrom, Costco, Wegmans and Amazon, which ranked the highest among all Internet retailers.
