Wrestling great Bret “The Hitman” Hart has announced that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Hart, 58, shared the sad news on his social media accounts Monday.

“I’ve had a great lifelong dance and I’m a survivor of many hard battles,” the Hall of Famer wrote in a lengthy Instagram post along with a photo of himself in the hospital. “I now face my toughest battle. With hesitation and fear, I openly declare myself in my fight against prostate cancer. In the next few days, I will undergo surgery with the hope of defeating this nemesis once and for all.”

Hart left professional wrestling in 1999 after suffering a concussion. A few years after that he had a stroke, which left him in a wheelchair. He had since recovered and again become a recognizable figure for WWE making appearances at several events.

After his announcement, he received tons of support and well wishes from his fans and fellow athletes who flooded social media outlets.
