When your name is Simon Smith, you have to do some special things to get attention. So, a British man who was stuck with that name decided to change his name to Bacon Double Cheeseburger last year.
In an interview with the London Evening Standard, Cheeseburger, 33, admitted that the decision was the “culmination of probably too many drinks in the pub where there was a conversation about names.”
(Update: The Evening Standard reported Mr. Cheeseburger's name as Sam Smith, but The BBC notes that he took to Twitter and said his given name was really Simon Smith.)
“Bacon Double Cheeseburger was pretty much the first thing that came up. Everyone loves bacon don’t they?” Cheeseburger said. “It was largely the most ridiculous thing we could think of. My friends were quite supportive of anything that makes me look silly, as good friends are.”
So, he applied to the U.K. Deed Poll Service to officially change his name. When the final paperwork arrived, he was sitting with the same friends, who urged him to sign. He did, so his new name is now official.
Unfortunately, the joke isn’t making his fiancee laugh.
“My fiancée is fairly reluctant about marrying a Cheeseburger,” he told the Evening Standard. “That’s something we’re discussing a lot. No girl ever dreams of spending her big day marrying a man called Bacon.”
But he has no regrets. After all, he’s the only person who can go to aa Burger King and say, “Hi, I’m Bacon Double Cheeseburger, can I have a Bacon Double Cheeseburger?”
