While 20th Century Fox comes to grips with the surprising success of Deadpool, the studio also has to get its future X-Men movies prepared. The studio has been forced to postpone Gambit and has scheduled two more movies.
Gambit, which will star Channing Tatum as the card-throwing New Orleans mutant, was supposed to come out on Oct. 7, 2016. However, director Doug Liman won’t start production until March, so making that date would have been impossible. Fox has now made that official, although a new release date hasn’t been planned.
Collider notes that Fox has also scheduled X-Men-related movies for Oct. 6, 2017 and Jan. 12, 2018. It’s possible that the October 2017 date is the new Gambit release date, although why Fox wouldn’t just come out and say that is weird.
The Jan. 12, 2018 date probably belongs to Deadpool 2, since that would be almost exactly two years after the release of the first movie. However, it could also be the X-Force movie.
The next X-Men movie is Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, which opens on May 27 and finishes up the trilogy that started with First Class. A third Wolverine solo movie is also scheduled for March 2017.
