God is dead, at least on Twitter. David Javerbaum, a veteran of The Daily Show, has quit his famous @TheTweetOfGod Twitter account.

The Twitter page reached over 2.2 million followers. His last tweet came on Feb. 13 and just read, “Justice.” He changed the bio to read “Done with you” and his location is now “Out of here.”

In an interview with Southern California Public Radio, Javerbaum blamed his decision on being hacked. He was already thinking that he was spending too much time with the joke, but that was what ultimately lead to his decision.

“The triggering event was I got hacked. The Twitter account got hacked. God got hacked, which wasn't surprising,” Javerbaum explained. “There were a number of obscene messages put up there briefly and then removed. There was a pornographic picture of Garfield. I just have to move on.”

Javerbaum, who is currently working at The Late Late Show with James Corden, also explained that he had had enough with what Twitter was doing to his thoughts by making them shorter to fit 140 characters.

“And also working on twitter for a long time, it just miniaturizes the way you think, because that's the medium,” he said. “You're a miniaturist. And if I'm going to work on other things that require anything longer — i.e. anything else in the world — I need to stop doing that.”

Javerbaum said that he would like to work in other media, although his wife said that they plan on going to a “new cosmos.”

Twitter will miss @TheTweetOfGod.
