Rapper DMX nearly died on Feb. 8 and was found unconscious in a Yonkers, New York hotel parking lot. Police saved his life when they performed CPR and rushed him to the hospital.

The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was found around 6 p.m. after police were called to the Ramada Inn parking lot in Yonkers, reports TMZ. Police found Simmons next to a car, lifeless and not breathing. They immediately performed CPR and Simmons’ pulse came back.

He was then rushed to the hospital and was “semi-conscious.”

“This was an excellent job by the officers and they definitely saved the life,” Lt. Patrick McCormack told the New York Daily News. “They found him in a lifeless condition with no breathing. They were able to bring back some breathing.”

A family member said that Simmons, 45, was trying to get his inhaler when he fell unconscious. He denied taking drugs and has been suffering from bronchitis.

However, witnesses told police that the rapper was seen ingesting a powder before falling to the ground. Police did give him an antidote for a narcotic overdose when they found him, according to TMZ.

DMX has had a rough year. He was sentenced to six months in jail for unpaid child support in July, but was released after two months. He was arrested in December for missing a court date, notes the Daily News.
