David Bowie’s son was not a fan of Lady Gaga’s tribute to his father at the Grammys, but he did enjoy Lorde’s performance honoring his dad at the Brit Awards.
ET Online noted that the “Royals” singer was introduced by Gary Oldman and took the stage during the Feb. 25 ceremony to sing Bowie’s hit single “Life on Mars.” The rocker’s touring bandmates, who have not performed together in more than a decade, also reunited on stage and played a melody of Bowie classics.
The crowd gave Lorde and the band a standing ovation after the nearly seven-minute performance. Moreover, the tough critic Duncan Jones gave his stamp of approval.
As we previously reported, on Feb. 15 Jones tweeted “‘Overexcited or irrational, typically as a result of infatuation or excessive enthusiasm; mentally confused.’ Damn it! What IS that word!?” after Gaga’s performance. However, he tweeted his appreciation for Lorde’s tribute.
“Finally found the links to tonight's Brits. Just... beautiful. Thank you,” he wrote.
Bowie died of cancer on Jan. 10.
