Elizabeth Banks is joining another Lionsgate franchise. After starring in The Hunger Games series, Banks will star as the villain in Lionsgate and Saban Films’ Power Rangers reboot.
Banks is the most experienced actor in the cast, which includes RJ Cyler, Becky G, Ludi Lin, Naomi Scott and Dacre Montgomery as the teens who have the powers to save the world.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Banks will star as Rita Repulsa, the famous villain from the series. She’s an alien witch who hopes to take over the Earth.
Power Rangers will be directed by Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) and will be executive produced by Allison Shearmur. Producers are Haim Saban and Brian Casentini of Saban, Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey.
The script was penned by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (The Last Witch Hunter, Gods of Egypt).
Banks starred in and directed Pitch Perfect 2 in 2015 and played Effie Trinket in the Hunger Games series.
