There are new details on the Elton John biopic that's been in the works for years. The film will not be a straightforward take on the singer's life.
The singer's husband, producer David Furnish, told E! News on Feb. 25 that while the project is still a work in progress, some decisions about the film's perspective on John's life have already been made. Specifically, the film - entitled Rocketman - will be a musical.
"It's an ongoing process raising money for a film and we also want to make it in the way we feel it needs to be made," Furnish, 53, said. "It's a musical fantasy biopic. It's very much an exaggerated, magnificent version of Elton's life as it might have happened so we very much want the right partners and finance in place to do the job properly."
As we reported in 2013, actor Tom Hardy was cast in the starring role, with Michael Gracey set to direct.
