The chief of the Miami police union has urged a boycott against Beyonce, who is kicking off her Formation world tour in the city’s Marlins Park.
Javier Ortiz released a statement on Feb. 17, saying Beyonce’s Super Bowl performance disrespected police.
"The fact that Beyoncé used this year’s Super Bowl to divide Americans by promoting the Black Panthers and her antipolice message shows how she does not support law enforcement,” the statement reads, Miami New Times reports.
Ortiz is hardly the first to voice his opposition to Beyonce’s performance. There was a boycott scheduled for outside of the NFL’s headquarters on Feb. 16; however, no one ended up showing up.
Ortiz has urged other police departments around the country to follow in his department’s footsteps.
“I challenge Beyoncé to review the 86-page report written by the United States Department of Justice on the death investigation of Michael Brown,” he also wrote. “Hands up, don't shoot was built on a lie.”
