Italian actor Raphael Schumacher was declared dead after hanging scene went wrong during a theatrical production at the Lux theater in Pisa.
The incident occurred on Jan. 30, during a play that requires him to put his head in a noose to simulate a hanging, reports Italian news agency ANSA. The performance was part of a play that allows the audience to walk through the production. Schumacher’s scene took place at the courtyard.
According to CNN, one of the spectators happened to be a medical graduate and realized that something was wrong. She rushed to him, loosened the noose and was rushed to a hospital.
Two directors and two stage technicians are being investigated for manslaughter. The theater company director insisted in an interview with Il Giorno that Schumacher changed the scene from a gunshot to hanging at the last moment without telling anyone.
A spokesperson at the Cisanello Hospital in Pisa told CNN that his family already approved of the harvesting of his organs.
