Jimmy Smits has found another (fictional) job in government. The former West Wing star will join Fox’s 24: Legacy series.
Smits will star as U.S. Senator John Donovan, who has really high political aspirations.
The series will star a whole new cast, so don’t expect to see Jack Bauer saving the world again. Instead, Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton) is the lead and Miranda Otto (Homeland) co-stars. Teddy Sears (The Flash) and Anna Diop (The Messengers) also have roles.
Hawkins will star as Eric Carter, a military hero who returns to the U.S., only to have his troubles follow him home. He asks the new CTU to help him and stop a terror attack on U.S. soil. Manny Coto and Evan Katz, who worked on the original 24, are writing. Stephen Hopkins, who also directed the first 24 pilot, will direct. Howard Gordon is back to executive produce.
Smits is best known for roles on LA Law, NYPD Blue, The West Wing and Sons of Anarchy. He will also star on Netflix’s The Get Down. He also played a Senator in the Star Wars prequels.
Smits won a Golden Globe in 1996 for NYPD Blue and has an Emmy for LA Law.
