A “substantial lock” of John Lennon’s hair that was clipped from the late Beatle’s head in 1966, has sold for $35,000 at auction.

As we previously reported, the lock of hair was put up for sale by Heritage Auctions in Dallas. The hair was saved by a German barber who worked on Lennon’s hair before he filmed Richard Lester’s 1967 war comedy How I Won The War.

The hair was cut on Sept. 7, 1966, just before the Beatles released Revolver, and was documented by German newspapers. Clippings of the reports are even included in the lot.

“This is the largest lock of Lennon's hair ever sold at auction,” the auction house told The BBC. Spokesman Garry Schrum added, “It was a good size with quite a lot of strands.”

The hair went to a British-based collector.

Lennon died in 1980 and pieces of his hair have gone up on auction before. In 2007, a lock of his hair was included in a copy of his book A Spaniard in the Works that hit the auction block, the AP reported at the time.
