Although her female-driven film How to Be Single hits theaters on Feb. 19, actress Leslie Mann thinks that the fight to produce--and recognize--more films like it is far from over.
Snap.pa reports that while on the pink carpet of the London premiere for How to Be Single, Mann opened up about her inclination towards female-driven comedy films, and her hope that awards categories will one day be able to fairly accommodate them.
"I love working with women," the 43-year-old gushed. "I love watching movies about women, and I think we need more of them."
When asked if she thought more awards categories were needed to recognize diverse types of comedy, she added, "It's ridiculous that we don't have any [categories within comedy]."
How to Be Single also stars Rebel Wilson, who's built her career on female-driven box office busters--a category once considered an industry myth--including Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect.
Mann's husband Judd Apatow directed Bridesmaids, as well as Amy Schumer's Golden Globe-nominated Trainwreck, and told Rolling Stone last year that he thinks there's an "underserved market" for similar films."It seems epically wrong," he added, "that women have to be dragged to so many male-dominated movies."
