Meryl Streep may have taken on the role of an aging rocker in last year's Ricki and the Flash, but the new trailer for Florence Foster Jenkins shows her tackling the role of a musician in a whole different genre.

On Feb. 17, The Telegraph posted an exclusive teaser trailer from the upcoming film, directed by Stephen Fears and starring Streep. The movie follows the life and work of Florence Foster Jenkins, an American woman who gained notoriety for being one of the worst opera singers in history.

Streep's co-stars include Hugh Grant as a British actor who becomes Jenkins' agent and husband, and The Big Bang Theory's Simon Helberg as her accompanist.  The role is an interesting choice for Streep, who told NPR that she studied opera early on in her career.

The teaser deftly sidesteps displaying any of Streep's vocal performance, but as Jenkins was a real-life artist, a taste what Streep may have in store can be found in her recordings, such as this Mozart piece.

Florence Foster Jenkins opens in the U.K. on May 6. It does not currently have a U.S. release date.
