Peter Mayhew, the tall actor under the Chewbacca costume in the Star Wars movies, has a treat for fans this week. He is posting every page of his copy of George Lucas’ early Star Wars script on Twitter.
Mayhew started on Feb. 17, with a tease to a “big announcement” later in the week. He posted the cover, which carries the title The Star Wars: The Adventures of Luke Starkiller as taken from the Journal of the Whills, along with the first three pages. It is dated March 15, 1976.
Amazingly, the script starts off with an opening crawl to set up the story, just like the final Star Wars film did in 1977. It even begins with the same opening dialogue from C-3PO: “Did you hear that? They’ve shut down the main reactor. We’ll be destroyed for sure. This is madness!!”
The script still refers to Luke as “Luke Starkiller” instead of “Luke Skywalker” and does include the deleted introduction of the character.
On Feb. 18, Mayhew shared four more pages. This segment includes some funny descriptions of R2-D2’s language. It also ends with the first part of the deleted Anchorhead sequence.
Star Wars fans will want to keep an eye on Mayhew’s Twitter feed. While seeing the beginnings of the franchise is important, it will be exciting to see what Mayhew’s announcement will be.
