The estranged member of a famous New York real estate family, Robert Durst, has plead guilty to a gun charge in New Orleans and is headed to Los Angeles where he could be put on trial for murder.
On Wednesday, Durst plead guilty in federal court to possessing a firearm, which he is not allowed to carry because he is a convicted felon. The Los Angeles Times noted that as part of his plea deal, he will be extradited back to Los Angeles and could possibly go on trial for the murder of his former confidant, Susan Berman.
“We anticipated this,” said Jane Robison, a spokeswoman of the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. “We were expecting this.”
Durst is scheduled to arrive in California no later than Aug. 18 to be arraigned for Berman’s killing.
That murder case and two others garnered national headlines recently after the HBO documentary The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst aired last March. At the end of the film, Durst goes into a bathroom and when he thinks his microphone is off can be heard saying what sounds like, “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course.”
