Samsung, which has worked with rapper Jay Z on several occasions in the past, will reportedly buy the music mogul’s Tidal streaming service.
Sources told the New York Post that the phone giant has had on-and-off talks with Tidal recently. Samsung would not comment on the talks.
Samsung and Jay Z have had a long relationship, working together on the release of his 2013 album Magna Carta Holy Grail. Samsung is also sponsoring Rihanna’s world tour for ANTI, which was released on Tidal first last month. Rihanna is also signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation.
Tidal does have 1 million subscribers, but the company has had its share of troubles in the past 16 months since its launch. More recently, ANTI was accidentally posted early, then Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo was made available to non-Tidal subscribers. That lead to thousands of illegally downloaded copies in the first 24 hours of its release.
