It looks like SpongeBob Squarepants won't be the only Bikini Bottom resident hitting the stage in Chicago this summer.
As we previously reported, the Nicklodeon series is set to get the musical treatment, complete with songs from Panic! at the Disco, They Might Be Giants, and T.I.. Earlier today, Entertainment Weekly reported that the musical has cast actors for three key players in the TV series on which the show is based: Patrick, Squidward, and Plankton.
The role of SpongeBob's trusty sidekick and best friend, Patrick, will be portrayed by Broadway newcomer Danny Skinner, who made his off-Broadway debut in Pluck The Day.
Gavin Lee will co-star as SpongeBob's neighbor, Squidward. According to Playbill, Lee debuted in the role of Bert in Mary Poppins on Broadway, a role for which he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical. He was also nominated for an Olivier Award for his performance in the musical's London run.
Spongebob's occasional nemesis, Plankton, will be played by Nick Blaemire, whose other Broadway credits include Godspell and Cry-baby, according to Broadway World.
