Following Stacy Dash’s controversial comments on #OscarsSoWhite, she’s praising the decision to cast a white actor as Michael Jackson in the TV movie Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon.
On her blog, she’s praising the film's casting directors for hiring the white, British actor Joseph Fiennes.
"BRAVO!" she wrote. "I'm sick and tired of being told 'Sorry, Stacey, this is a Caucasian-only role.' Counterintuitively, this decision by Hollywood—which looks like a diss to blacks—is actually what we've been saying all along: roles should NOT be based on color."
Dash went on to write she thinks Fiennes’ performance will be “amazing as long as he plays him truthfully and authentically.”
Fiennes’ casting has been criticized by many, especially on the heels of the Academy’s lack of diversity in nominees. However, Dash’s argument for praising the decision is it throws the rule out the window that the casting process should be “dictated by race.”
