Star Wars: The Force Awakens might have spent its first weekend outside of the Top 10 at the box office, but that doesn’t mean anyone has stopped caring about it. Now, all eyes are on the upcoming Blu-ray release, which will definitely include deleted scenes.
In an interview with The Independent, the film’s Oscar-nominated editors - Mary Jo Markey and Maryann Brandon - revealed that the Blu-ray will include seven deleted scenes.
“We have been talking about [the deleted scenes],” Brandon said. “But Disney has mentioned to us that - since they’re going to be on the DVD treats for viewers - that we should stop talking about them.”
Brandon added that the group includes a scene with Harrison Ford’s Han Solo and Daisy Ridley’s Rey, “but there aren’t a lot.”
In other words, don’t be disappointed if the deleted scenes are only a couple of minutes long and don’t reveal anything drastically new. (Although it would be nice to know who the heck Constable Zuvio was.)
Meanwhile, the Disney news site Stitch Kingdom reports that an item page on Walmart.com appears to show the Blu-ray cover, which will have BB-8 on Jakku. A Swedish site called cdon.de of all places also listed the special features, which did include deleted scenes. There are also featurettes on John Williams, the lightsaber fight on Starkiller Base and how BB-8 was built.
Another big mystery is when the Blu-ray will hit stores. An April release date - which would be five months after the film hit theaters - has been rumored. Unfortunately, Blu-ray.com no longer lists a release date.
