Two NYPD officers and a suspect are currently in the hospital after a shootout in the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn.

The shootout occurred around 3:20 a.m. on Feb. 20 on Quincy Street and Malcolm X Boulevard, according to CBS New York. According to police, the two officers heard shots fired and responded, encountering the suspect Jamal Funes.

Funes, 34, pointed a revolver at the two officers before entering a vehicle, driving the wrong way down the street on Malcolm X Boulevard. The suspect then rammed his vehicle into a responding patrol car on Lexington Avenue. From there, the shootout began between the responding officers and Funes.

One of the officers was shot in the chest, his bullet-proof vest saving his life.

"The bullet did not penetrate his vest,” Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said. “He suffered blunt force trauma. The second officer was struck once below the vest line and a bullet entered his right hip.”

Both officers are in stable condition in Kings County Hospital. Funes was shot multiple times and is in critical condition in Brookdale Hospital.

“This morning is a reminder of the important and dangerous and crucial work that our police officers do,” Mayor de Blasio said in this morning's press conference.

A .357 revolver was recovered from the front seat of Funes' car with five spent shell casings inside.
