It’s a sad day for fans of electronic music.
According to Rolling Stone, successful DJ and producer Avicii is set to retire at the end the year. The “Wake Me Up” performer wrote an open letter to his fans on his website about his decision to end his touring career at 26-years-old.
“I will however never let go of music - I will continue to speak to my fans through it, but I’ve decided this 2016 run will be my last tour and last show,” he wrote. The singer continued his statement to fans, saying, “Let’s make them go out with a bang!”
Avicii, who was born Tim Bergling, broke into the EDM scene in 2011 with his hit “Levels.” He has released two studio albums and performed at musical festivals around the world. In his heartfelt post, Avicii thanked his family, producers, friends and various musicians for their impact on his career.
He was also sure to thank his fans for all of their support, even ones who may not have enjoyed the song, telling them, "Its your thoughts and ideas about the music that helped me evolve and I do owe everything I have to you."
Avicii spoke about how a drive through the states with friends and his team helped him decide what kind of changes he wanted to do for his life, as he saw life in a different way. He did end his statement saying that he could be back.
