Six years after Brittany Murphy passed away, the cause of her mysterious death might be revisited.
According to E! News, L.A. County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter opened up the possibility of reexamining the actress's cause of death. Murphy passed away in 2009 and her “accidental death” was from a combination of pneumonia, anemia and drugs.
Winter explained there are a few conditions that would make revisiting Murphy’s case possible.
"We would have to have direct evidence,” Winter said. “In all honesty, it would take something like a confession. Something connecting somebody with it."
Winter also said that “if law enforcement contacted us” or if “substantial evidence” was recovered, it could be cause for reexamination.
Lifetime took on Murphy’s story and death in the 2014 biopic The Brittany Murphy Story much to her father’s dismay.
“Frankly, I am amazed at their audacity of calling it ‘a true story,’ without conducting any research or consulting with any members of the family,” Angelo Bertolotti said.
Murphy’s final film, Something Wicked, was released in 2014.
