Star Wars actor Daisy Ridley is in talks to play Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider reboot.
Reports of this potential casting emerged last week, but today Ridley herself provided confirmation, according to The Hollywood Reporter. She noted that there "have been conversations" about her joining Tomb Raider, although she has not officially been offered the part yet. Ridley also added that there is not actually a completed script for the film at the moment.
“I’m waiting for someone to say ‘I want you, let’s do it,'” she said.
At least one person wants her to do it: Ridley's Star Wars costar John Boyega, who thinks she would be perfect as Croft.
“I played Tomb Raider the game, it’s a new take and I think the movies are going to be based on that version,” he said. “But I texted Daisy [and] was like, ‘this is you!’ and ‘you need to get on that because you could be Lara Croft.’"
Although Ridley is attached to Star Wars Episode VIII and Star Wars Episode IX, she is looking to fill out her schedule with other projects. At the moment, Star Wars is the only major film she has ever appeared in. The 23-year-old actor recently made Forbes' 30 Under 30 list recognizing the breakout talents of 2015, as we previously reported.
Lara Croft was originally given life on screen by Angelina Jolie in 2001 and then again in 2003. This new reboot is expected in theaters next year.
