A few weeks after airing a mysterious teaser without any actual footage, HBO has just released the first real trailer for Game of Thrones' sixth season.
The trailer, which launched on the show's YouTube channel, opens by addressing what we're all here to find out. Over a shot of Jon Snow's lifeless corpse, Davos tell us, "He's gone." Yet if we pay close attention, something far more significant seems to be happening with Snow. Melisandre is clearly carrying out some sort of plan at Castle Black, and later, Davos pulls out Longclaw to fight while in a room with Jon's body. Is he working with Melisandre to resurrect Snow? It has been established that followers of the Lord of Light have the power to bring back the dead, and Carice Van Houten has stated that Melisandre has a vital role in this season, as we previously reported.
Outside of the Night's Watch storyline, we see Daenerys taken captive by the Dothraki and possibly arriving at Vaes Dothrak, while Jorah discovers the ring she left behind in the season finale.
At King's Landing, Cersei Lannister, now backed up by what appears to be a reanimated Mountain at her side, clashes with Lancel and the Sparrows, choosing violence over surrender.
Finally, and craziest of all, Bran Stark turns around to find the Night's King standing right behind him. It's a startling moment, although considering Bran is standing up here, it's likely one of many vision sequences he'll be having next year.
Game of Thrones' sixth season premieres on April 24. Unlike last year, it won't be available illegal online any earlier than that. Several episodes of the season 5 leaked on the Internet before airing on HBO, but to avoid that problem, the network will no longer be sending out press screeners, as we previously reported.
