Former Mayor of Toronto Rob Ford is battling cancer and his family is now by his bedside to discuss further treatment with his doctors.

According CP24, a source has said that a recent chemotherapy treatment failed and therefore Ford’s family is with him at Mt. Sinai Hospital and discussing options that he is healthy enough for.

"With his family beside him, Councillor Ford is currently in hospital as he continues his battle against cancer," his office said in a statement. "The Ford family asks for privacy during this difficult time, and thank the people of Toronto and around the world for their ongoing prayers and support."

Ford was diagnosed with pleomorphic liposarcoma in 2014. He had surgery in May to remove the tumor, but in October two malignant growths were discovered on his bladder. The 46-year-old has been in the hospital since February and has reportedly already undergone 10 rounds of chemo.

Ford garnered international headlines in 2013 after he admitted to smoking crack while he was intoxicated. He would not resign at the time but was forced out of his re-election bid the following year.
